Howdy! 👋
About HooRead
Hooread is here to help students and language learners to learn languages the fun way, through stories! 📖
My name is Tristan and I grew up in Canada, I was in the French Immersion program at my school. I've always had a love for languages. 🇨🇦
I'm passionate about learning and teaching, that's why I got my level 5 TEFL certification and created this webapp! 🧑🎓
I created HooRead as part of my Harvard certification because I wanted to read more in other languages, discover new vocabulary and get immersed in stories, all while putting my programming skills to good use. 🦸
I believe in giving back, which is why I run a fundraising program through HooRead. For elementary and highschool students who sign up for the student plan and enter their school name, $1 will go directly back to your school! 🤝
Upcoming Features 👨💻
New Stories: New stories will be put out every week!
New Languages: Starting with the most popular languages to learn: Spanish will be first, then I plan to eventually add German, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, etc...
Flashcards: I'll be implementing an SRS (Spaced Repetition System) so that you can study the words you save from the stories you read with context!
Voice Reading: I will be adding a voice track to all the stories, some people learn better by listening and it can certainly help to get the correct pronunciation.
Mobile App: I'm working on making an app for Android and Apple phones.
Thanks 🙏
Pam: Huge thanks to Pam for designing my logo and banner, and providing so much feedback and encouragement throughout the whole process of HooRead's creation 🤝 Pam runs her own design business at PamGnn where you can find her amazing work! She also runs KoreanLing which is a Korean study blog that's very useful for korean learners and interesting to people curious about Korean culture!
Family & Friends: A big thanks to my family for supporting me and quality assurance testing HooRead from the beginning stages. Thank you also for translation help and the encouragement! 👏
Users: Thank you all so much for making my dream come true! Without readers, this project wouldn't mean anything. Thank you all! 🫶
